Work Placement: Site Visits and Styling Progress

Today’s placement provided valuable insight into the project management and styling process within real residential environments. The focus was entirely on site visits an essential aspect of the interior design process that explores the gap studio planning and on-site realisation.

A site visit to a development in Brent Cross, where the visit was made to see the progress of a set of apartments due for final styling at the end of the month. This involved reviewing the layout, spatial flow, and installation readiness, with feedback provided directly to Katie to ensure the upcoming styling aspects. Observing this stage was particularly useful in understanding how styling must adapt in real time to the conditions and progress of a site.

The second visit took place in Walthamstow, at a completed show apartment requiring final styling refinements. This involved making subtle yet impactful changes to elevate the existing design—rearranging accessories, refreshing soft furnishings, and enhancing focal points to improve visual cohesion. It was a strong example of how attention to detail in styling can transform the atmosphere of a space without requiring structural changes.

The third and final site visit, also in Walthamstow, focused on the removal of furniture and decor from a previous showhome, making way for a forthcoming styling project. This experience highlighted the logistical side of interior design, managing furniture storage, coordinating transitions between properties, and ensuring continuity of service across multiple projects.

A clearer understanding emerged of the full lifecycle of a design project: from initial construction updates to final styling touches, and ultimately, the transition into new concepts. These site visits demonstrated the level of organisation, adaptability, and forward planning required to deliver high-quality, cohesive interiors across multiple locations.

Being present on-site added a dynamic and practical layer to the placement experience, reinforcing the collaborative nature of interior styling and the importance of communication between designers, developers, and installation teams. As preparation begins for the next upcoming showhome, today’s insights will serve as a foundation for both creative decision-making and practical execution.
